This page is maintained by Bettor Design LLC to answer common privacy questions about NellyList. It describes the app's current practices and the platform services it relies on. It is not an independent certification or legal advice.
Introduction
Welcome to NellyList. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This privacy policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use the NellyList iOS app, the NellyList web app at app.nellylist.com, the Nelly AI list helper, the Pin to NellyList browser extension, and the NellyList website.
The App and iOS Permissions
The App runs on iPhone and in your browser, and uses standard platform features. You control permissions through iOS Settings > NellyList or your browser. We only request permissions needed for features you use:
- Account sign-in: Sign in with Apple, Google, or email to sync your lists across iPhone and web when you're online.
- Notifications: Used to deliver reminders for list items you schedule. You can disable notifications at any time in iOS Settings.
- Camera and Photos: Requested only if you choose to add a photo to a list item. Photos are stored with your account data when you are signed in.
- Siri and Shortcuts: If you opt in, the App exposes shortcuts so you can add items or open lists with Siri.
- Push notification tokens: If you enable notifications, Apple Push Notification service (APNs) issues a device token that allows us to deliver reminders.
The Pin to NellyList Browser Extension
The optional Pin to NellyList extension for Chrome-family browsers lets you save pages, links, images, and selected text into your lists. It is designed to touch only what you choose to pin:
- The page you are viewing: The extension's side panel shows the current tab's address and title so you can pin it. This stays in your browser — nothing is sent to us until you pin.
- What you pin: When you pin something, the address, the title you confirm, and any note you add are saved as an item in the list you choose, exactly like an item created in the app.
- Image names: If you pin an image, the extension reads that image's caption or alt text from the page to suggest a name for the item.
- Sign-in: You sign in with the same Apple or Google account you use in NellyList. The extension keeps its own sign-in session, stored in your browser's extension storage.
- Settings: Your chosen default list is stored locally in your browser.
The extension does not collect or transmit your browsing history. Pages you visit but do not pin are never sent to us.
Link Previews and Pinned Content
When you attach a link to an item — in the app or with the browser extension — our servers may fetch that publicly available page to build a preview: its title, description, and preview image. For items that are books, films, music, or games, we may also look up public catalogue information (such as cover art, posters, synopses, and track listings) from sources like Wikipedia, Apple's media catalogue, OpenLibrary, and Spotify to display richer cards. These lookups are about the linked content, not about you, and previews may be cached so they load quickly for everyone.
Affiliate Links
Some outbound links in NellyList — for example, "Find on Amazon" links on shoppable items — may include our affiliate identifier, and we may earn a commission on qualifying purchases at no extra cost to you. As an Amazon Associate, Bettor Design LLC (NellyList) earns from qualifying purchases. When you follow such a link, the retailer processes your visit under its own privacy policy; we receive only aggregate commission reporting from affiliate programs, never your personal shopping data.
In-App Advertising (Free Tier)
If you use NellyList Free on iPhone, the app may show ads through Google AdMob. NellyList Pro removes in-app ads. This is separate from advertising on the NellyList marketing website, which is described below.
Google AdMob may collect or use information to serve, limit, and measure ads, including:
- Device type, operating system version, and app version
- IP address and coarse location derived from IP
- Advertising identifiers permitted by your device and iOS settings
- Ad interactions, such as impressions and clicks
- Diagnostic and performance data related to ad delivery
App Tracking Transparency (ATT): On iPhone, NellyList may request App Tracking Transparency permission for free users when ad partners need permission to personalize or measure ads. You can decline and still use the app. Where required, Google may also present additional ad consent or privacy choices. AdMob may collect device, usage, advertising, diagnostic, and approximate location data to provide and measure ads, depending on your consent and device settings.
You can upgrade to NellyList Pro to remove in-app ads. You can also review Google's ad practices in Google's Privacy Policy and manage ad personalization at ad.google.com. Where required by law, Google may present additional ad consent or privacy choices in the app.
Information We Collect
Account Information
- Account information from Sign in with Apple, Google, or email used for authentication and sync
- Email address associated with your account, support requests, or other direct contact with us
- Subscription status managed through Apple App Store receipts
Marketing and Website Signups
- Email address when you join the launch list or otherwise opt in to product updates on nellylist.com
- Basic signup metadata, such as the page you submitted from and the date of signup
List and Content Data
- Lists you create, their titles, items, and to-do status
- Notes, tags, reminders, and preferences you save in the app
- Images or attachments you add to lists, if any
- Lists you choose to share through a link, including preview content needed to display that link on the web
- Items you pin with the browser extension, including the pinned address, title, and any note you add
- Links you attach to items, and the public preview data (title, description, image) our servers fetch to display them
- Live Lists you create or join, including list content, collaborator membership, invites, activity history, and sync data needed to keep everyone on the same list up to date
Live Lists and Collaboration
When you turn a list into a Live List, NellyList stores and syncs that list's content so invited collaborators can view, add, and complete items together. Collaborators you invite can see list content and recent activity (such as who added or completed an item). Live Lists are different from shared list links: a link preview lets someone import their own copy, while a Live List is one shared list that stays in sync for everyone invited.
If you leave a Live List or remove a collaborator, you may choose whether to keep a copy of the list on your device or remove it. Other collaborators may continue using the Live List unless they also leave or are removed.
Offline and On-Device Data
NellyList is designed to work offline. When you are not signed in, or when you are offline, lists and changes may be stored locally on your device until you sign in and sync.
AI Prompts
- Text prompts you send to Nelly to generate list suggestions
- Generated list content returned by the AI service
Usage and Diagnostic Information
- In the app: crash logs, diagnostics, device type, iOS version, and app version to help us improve stability
- On the marketing website: standard server and security logs, such as IP address, browser type, and pages visited
Technical Information
- IP address and network information when connecting to our services
- Device information and anonymized identifiers
- Advertising identifiers and ad interaction data when you use NellyList Free on iPhone
- Cookies and similar technologies when using the NellyList website
How We Use Your Information
- Service Provision: To provide and improve NellyList, including list creation, syncing, and AI suggestions
- Sync: To keep your lists up to date across iPhone and web when you are signed in, and to sync Live Lists with collaborators in near real time
- AI Features: To process your prompts and generate helpful list suggestions
- Account Management: To manage subscriptions and respond to support requests
- Personalization: To save your preferences and improve your experience
- Communication: To send important service updates, respond to support requests, and send launch or product emails you opt into
- In-app advertising: To show ads on the Free tier and measure ad delivery through Google AdMob
- Website operations: To operate nellylist.com, measure site performance, and display advertising where enabled
Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell your personal information. We may share your data only in these limited circumstances:
- Service Providers: With trusted third-party services (such as our cloud hosting provider, Apple, Google, OpenAI, Resend, Google AdMob, and Google AdSense) that help us operate NellyList
- Shared list links: When you share a list link, anyone with that link can view the web preview you chose to share. Only share links with people you trust.
- Live Lists collaborators: When you invite someone to a Live List, they can access the shared list content and activity needed to collaborate with you. Only invite people you trust to see and edit that list.
- Legal Requirements: When required by law or to protect our rights
- Business Transfers: In the event of a merger or acquisition
Third-Party Services
We rely on the following third-party services to operate NellyList:
- Cloud hosting: For storing and syncing your lists, reminders, and account data when you are signed in.
- Apple and Google: For Sign in with Apple, Google sign-in, and App Store subscriptions where applicable.
- Apple App Store: For processing subscriptions and in-app purchases on iPhone.
- OpenAI: For processing AI prompts and generating list suggestions when you use Create with Nelly.
- Google AdMob: For serving and measuring in-app ads on the NellyList Free tier on iPhone.
- Resend: For managing launch list signups and sending product update emails you opt into.
- Google AdSense: For advertising and related measurement on the NellyList marketing website.
- Cloudflare: For hosting and delivering the NellyList marketing website.
These services have their own privacy policies and terms that govern how they handle your data. Google's advertising practices are described in Google's Privacy Policy. You can manage Google ad personalization at ad.google.com.

Legal Bases for Processing (EEA/UK)
Where required by law, we rely on the following legal bases:
- Contract: To provide the service you request and fulfill our agreement with you
- Legitimate Interests: To secure, improve, and operate NellyList in a way that is proportionate and respects your privacy
- Consent: For optional features such as launch list emails, marketing updates, and certain website advertising technologies
- Legal Obligation: To comply with applicable laws and regulations
Sources of Personal Information
We collect information directly from you (for example, lists you create, prompts you send to Nelly, or your launch list signup), automatically through your use of NellyList (for example, device, diagnostic, and website log data), and from service providers that help us operate NellyList (for example, sign-in providers and cloud hosting).
Data Security
We implement appropriate security measures to protect your personal information, including:
- Encryption of data in transit between the app and our services
- Access controls and authentication
- Secure hosting infrastructure
- Secure cloud hosting and access controls for synced account data
No service is completely secure. We encourage you to use a strong device passcode and keep your sign-in credentials secure.
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access: Request a copy of your personal data
- Correction: Update or correct your information
- Deletion: Request deletion of your account and data
- Portability: Export your data in a readable format
- Objection: Object to certain processing of your data
If you are in the EEA, UK, or California, you may also have additional rights under local law. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights.
Cookies and Website Tracking
We use cookies and similar technologies on the NellyList marketing website to:
- Keep you signed in to the web app, if applicable
- Remember your preferences
- Measure site traffic and performance
- Deliver and measure advertising through Google AdSense
Google AdSense may set cookies or use similar technologies to serve ads, limit ad frequency, and measure ad performance. You can control cookies through your browser settings, and you can manage Google ad personalization through Google's ad settings. Some website features may not work properly if cookies are disabled.
Children's Privacy
NellyList is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected such information, we will take steps to delete it.
International Data Transfers
Your data may be processed in countries other than your own, including through our cloud hosting provider and OpenAI services. We rely on safeguards recognized by law and our vendors' transfer frameworks where applicable.
Selling or Sharing of Personal Information (U.S. State Laws)
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising except as permitted by applicable law and as described for in-app ad partners such as Google AdMob and website advertising partners such as Google AdSense.
How to Exercise Your Rights
Submit requests (access, deletion, correction, portability, objection, or unsubscribe from marketing emails) by emailing nelly@nellylist.com. We may ask for information to verify your identity. Authorized agents may submit requests with proof of authorization and identity verification.
How Long We Keep Your Information
We keep your personal information only as long as necessary to provide our services, meet our legal obligations, and resolve disputes.
Active Accounts
Your lists, preferences, and subscription information are stored while your account is active and you use cloud sync.
Inactive Accounts
If you do not use NellyList for more than 1 year, we may delete or anonymize your account data and preferences.
Cancelled Subscriptions
If you cancel your NellyList Pro subscription, your data will be retained for up to 1 year in case you decide to reactivate.
Uploaded Images and Attachments
Images or attachments you add to lists are stored for as long as the associated list exists and your account remains active. When a list is deleted, the associated data is also deleted from our storage. When your account is deleted or becomes inactive beyond the retention period, all uploaded data is permanently removed.
Billing and Legal Records
Payment-related information may be kept for a longer period (typically up to 7 years) as required by financial or tax regulations.
Launch List and Marketing Emails
If you join the launch list or opt in to product updates, we keep your email and related signup details until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them.
Additional Retention Periods
Support and operational logs (up to 12 months), website server logs (up to 12 months), and other legal or compliance records as required by law.
Important: Once data is deleted or anonymized, it cannot be restored.
User Control: You can request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by emailing nelly@nellylist.com. Upon verification, your data will be permanently removed within 30 days.
Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
Some browsers transmit "Do Not Track" or Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals. Where legally required, we treat GPC signals as an opt-out preference for applicable processing.
Subprocessors
Key service providers include: Apple (Sign in with Apple, App Store), Google (sign-in, AdMob, and AdSense), our cloud hosting provider (account sync and storage), Cloudflare (marketing website hosting), OpenAI (AI content generation), and Resend (launch list and product email delivery). These providers process data on our behalf under appropriate agreements.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
