Sort a list into groups

Groups split one list into labeled cards — Mom, Dad and Vincent on a gift list; London, North West and Yorkshire on a list of stadiums. Every list kind can have them, and a ranked list numbers within each group.

Make a group

Open the list and tap ⋯ → New group, or tap the + beside the add field and choose New group. Name it and it appears as its own card. Only the list's owner arranges groups — creating, renaming, reordering and deleting them — because they are part of the list's structure. Rename by tapping the name on the card; reorder by holding a card's header and dragging it.

Put things in a group

• Add straight into it. Each group card has its own add field — Add to London… — so a new item lands where it belongs.
• Move one item. Open it and tap ⋯ → Move to group…, then pick the group. Hold an item and drag it to reorder it within its group.
• Move several at once. ⋯ → Organize groups → Select items to move, tick the items, then Move and pick the group. You stay in selection mode, so distributing a whole list across several groups is one pass.
• Let Nelly sort it. With four or more unsorted items, Organize groups offers Let Nelly sort: Nelly proposes groups for you to accept or reject before anything changes. It uses one of your daily creates — the app shows the live count — and the result has Undo.

Take things out again

Move an item to No group — from its own page, or from Select items to move — and it leaves its group. To dissolve a group, tap its ⋯ and choose Ungroup — the items stay, the card goes — or Delete group and items to remove both. Each lands an Undo banner.

On a Live List

Anyone who can edit the list can move items between groups. Creating and arranging the groups themselves stays with the owner, and a locked list keeps everything where it is.
