What happens to what you send Nelly?
What you send Nelly goes to our AI provider, OpenAI, to write the reply. We keep those requests and Nelly's lists while your account exists and review them to improve Nelly. Lists you make yourself are never reviewed.
Nelly is an AI helper, so what you ask her has to go to an AI service to be answered. We also keep those requests, and the lists she writes back, and read them to make Nelly better. Lists you make and edit yourself are a different matter: nobody at NellyList reviews them.
What Nelly sees
Each time you use Nelly, what you send goes to our AI provider, OpenAI, to write the reply:
- Create with Nelly: what you type in the box.
- More with Nelly: the list's name, the items already on it, and anything you type in Anything in particular?
- Smart Groups: the list's items.
- Add details with Nelly: the list's name and the items being filled in.
- Adding items with Siri (iPhone): what you said, so Nelly can split it into separate items.
So when you use Nelly on a list you made yourself, that list's name and items are part of the request.
What we keep, and why
- Your Nelly requests and the lists she writes are kept, linked to your account, for as long as your account exists. We review them to see where Nelly gets things wrong and to make her better.
- Lists Nelly writes may be reused when someone else asks for exactly the same thing, so they get an answer straight away. Those saved answers don't carry your name or account.
- Delete your account and your Nelly requests go with it. Saved answers that someone else could reuse stay, without anything that links them to you. See Delete your account.
What we don't look at
- Lists you make and edit yourself. They're stored in your account so they sync between your devices, but nobody at NellyList reviews them. Our own tools show only counts, like how many lists an account has.
- Usage analytics never include what's on your lists or what you send Nelly. See What usage analytics does NellyList collect?.
FAQ
Does Nelly see all my lists?
No. Nelly only sees what you send her in that moment: your request, and the list's name and items when you use More with Nelly, Smart Groups or Add details on it.
Can I use NellyList without Nelly?
Yes. Make lists yourself with + on My Lists and add items by typing, pasting or scanning. None of that goes to Nelly. See Make a list yourself.
Is any of this sold?
No. We don't sell your lists or what you send Nelly.
