Reminders aren't arriving

When a reminder doesn't arrive, it's usually one of four things: the item has no time, reminders are switched off in NellyList, your iPhone is blocking or silencing notifications, or you're on the web app with NellyList closed. Go through these checks in order.

1. Give the item a date and a time

A reminder fires at a moment, so the item needs both a date and a time. The bell next to an item appears once it has them. Tap the bell and choose when to be reminded. See Set reminders on items and lists.

A few things stop a reminder on purpose:

• The item is checked off. Finished items don't remind you.
• The time has passed. If the reminder time is already in the past, the app tells you, and nothing fires.

2. Turn reminders on in NellyList

1. Open the menu at the top right of My Lists and tap Account & Settings.
2. Tap Notifications and make sure Enable reminders is on.
3. On iPhone, under Delivery, make sure On this device is on too.

Setting a reminder usually switches Enable reminders on for you. If you turned it off later, nothing fires. The All reminders screen shows Reminders are paused when that's the case. Tap it to go straight to the switch.

3. Let your iPhone show NellyList notifications

1. Open iPhone Settings, scroll down and tap NellyList.
2. Tap Notifications and turn on Allow Notifications.

If NellyList's Notifications screen says notifications are off for NellyList, this is the setting it means.

Then check Focus. A Focus like Sleep or Work silences apps it doesn't allow. Swipe down to Control Center to see if one is on, or add NellyList to its allowed apps in Settings → Focus.

On iPhone, reminders arrive even when NellyList is closed.

4. On the web, keep NellyList open

The web app can only show reminders while NellyList is open in a browser tab. Close the tab and nothing fires. For reminders you can count on, use the iPhone app.

If your browser blocked alerts, allow notifications for app.nellylist.com in the browser's site settings, then reload the page.

Still missing reminders?

Open All reminders from the menu at the top right of My Lists. It lists every reminder that's still going to fire. If one you expect isn't there, it's turned off or its time has passed, so set it again from the item. See See and turn off all your reminders.

Why is there no bell next to my item?

The item needs a date and a time, and the time can't have passed. Checked-off items don't show one either.

Can I get reminded about a whole list?

Will I get reminders if my phone was offline?

Yes, for reminders already on that iPhone. They're scheduled on the device itself, so they fire without a connection.
