Set reminders on items and lists
Give an item a date and time, tap its bell, choose whether it repeats, then pick when to be reminded, which saves it. A whole list can remind you too.
Any item with a date and time can remind you: at the time it's due, or a little before. Tap the bell on the item's row, choose whether it repeats, then pick when you want the reminder. Picking the time saves it straight away.
Remind me about an item
- Give it a date. Tap the item to open it and tap the date row. If the item has no time yet, it gets 9:00 AM; tap the time row to change it.
- Tap the bell. It appears on the item's row once the item has a date and time. On the item's own page, tap Remind me instead.
- Choose a repeat, if you want one. Under Repeat, pick Daily, Weekly, Monthly or Yearly. Leave it on Never for a one-time reminder.
- Pick when. Under When, choose At due time, 15 min before, 1 hr before, 12 hr before, 1 day before or 1 week before.
Choosing a When option saves the reminder and closes the sheet. You'll see Reminder set at the top of the screen. If the time you picked has already gone by, NellyList tells you That time has already passed.
The bell fills in once a reminder is on, and the item's page shows the setting, for example "Remind 1 hr before · Every week".
Remind me to open a list
A whole list can nudge you, which suits the weekly shop or a Sunday reset.
- Open the list and tap the bell at the top right.
- Tap List reminder, then switch on Remind me to open this list.
- Set the Date (or Starts, for a repeating one), the Time, and how it should Repeat.

Turn a reminder off
- One item: tap its bell and choose Turn off reminder, or open the item, tap ⋯ and choose Turn off reminder. The date and time stay.
- A list reminder: tap the list's bell, then List reminder, and switch it off.
- Several at once: use the Reminder Center. See See and turn off all your reminders.
Where reminders arrive
- On iPhone, reminders arrive as notifications even when NellyList is closed. Allow notifications when asked.
- On the web, alerts come through your browser, and only while NellyList is open in a tab.
To check your settings, open Account & Settings and tap Notifications. Enable reminders switches all of them on or off. If reminders aren't showing up, see Reminders aren't arriving.
FAQ
Why is there no bell on my item?
The bell only shows on items that have a date and a time, aren't checked off, and aren't already past due. Items made from a link start with their date fields hidden; open the item, tap ⋯, and switch on Show date & reminder.
Can I change the reminder time later?
Yes. Tap the bell again and pick a different option. The new choice replaces the old one.
Does a repeating reminder keep going after I check the item off?
No. Checking an item off stops its reminder.
