Get recipes and ingredients for each dish

When you ask Nelly for dishes, every item comes with a photo, a recipe in its notes, an Ingredients checklist and a Find recipes link. Add details with Nelly fills in any dish that's missing them.

Updated September 30, 2026 · 3 min read

Ask Nelly for dishes and you get more than a list of names. Every dish arrives with a photo, the recipe itself, its ingredients as a checklist you can tick off, and a link to find other versions online.

Make a recipe list

On My Lists, tap + → Create with Nelly and ask for food, or tap the Recipes to try idea. For example:

  • "10 dishes I should cook this week"
  • "A week of vegetarian dinners"
  • "Easy bakes for a rainy weekend"

Ask for a single dish ("Spaghetti Bolognese recipe", "how to make carbonara") and you get one recipe card rather than a list of steps. Ask for "ingredients for chicken curry" or a "shopping list for…" and you get a shopping list of ingredients instead. See Create a list with Nelly for the rest of the create flow.

What each dish comes with

Tap a dish to open it:

  • A photo of the dish, on its row and as the item's first photo.
  • Notes: how many it serves, how long it takes, and the method, step by step.
  • Ingredients: the ingredients as a checklist. Tick them off as you shop or cook, and add your own rows at the bottom. See Add a checklist inside an item.
  • Find recipes: a link that opens a web search for other recipes for that dish.

The recipes are written by Nelly in her own words. She writes each dish once and keeps it, so a dish anyone has asked for before appears straight away. Photos of dishes are provided by Pexels.

Adding more dishes

On a recipe list, ⋯ → More with Nelly suggests more dishes, and each new one comes with its photo, recipe and ingredients too. See Add more items with Nelly.

Filling in older or incomplete lists

Occasionally a dish arrives without its photo or recipe, or a recipe list was made before these extras existed. Open the list and tap ⋯ → Add details with Nelly, then Enrich:

  • Missing photos and recipes are filled in.
  • Dishes get an Ingredients checklist if they don't have one yet.
  • Recipes Nelly has already written are free. If she has to write new ones (with Notes switched on), that run uses one from your Nelly allowance. See How your Nelly allowance works.

A dish that already has notes keeps them. To swap an older note for the full recipe and checklist, tick Replace my notes before you tap Enrich. See Fill in missing details with Nelly.

FAQ

The checklist tab says "Checklist" instead of "Ingredients". Can I change it?

Yes, if it's your list. Tap ⋯ → Edit list details and type Ingredients under Checklist wording. See Add a checklist inside an item. New recipe lists from Nelly are named that way already.

Can I edit a recipe?

Yes. The notes and the ingredients are yours to change, like any other item. Nothing you edit is overwritten unless you ask for it.

Where do the recipes come from?

Nelly writes them, aiming for a conventional, tested version of each dish. Find recipes is there when you'd like to compare with other versions.
