Sort a list and choose what it shows
Open the list and tap ⋯ → Sort to change the order, or ⋯ → View options to choose what the list shows. Dates and times have their own ⋯ → Schedule sheet.
Every list keeps its own order and its own display settings. Open the list, tap ⋯, and look under Organize & view: Sort changes the order of the items, and View options chooses what each row shows. Changes apply straight away.
Sort the items
Tap ⋯ → Sort and pick one:
- Custom order: the order you arrange by hand.
- Alphabetical (A–Z) or Alphabetical (Z–A).
- By due date (earliest) or By due date (latest) on a to-do list. Other lists sort By date added (oldest) or By date added (newest) instead.
On a to-do list, the same sheet has a switch for Move completed to the bottom, so ticked-off items sink below the ones still to do. Items whose date has passed always drop below the rest, into an Expired section.
A ranked list has no Sort option, because its order is the ranking.
Choose what the list shows
Tap ⋯ → View options and flip the switches:
- Tap progress for details: tapping the progress card opens the details. See See how far along a list is.
- Add new items to bottom: new items land at the end instead of the top.
- Show artwork: cover art and photo thumbnails on each row.
- Show chevrons: an arrow on the right of each row.
- Show completed tasks: keep ticked-off items visible.
- Show expired tasks: keep items whose date has passed visible.
The progress switch and the two Show … tasks switches appear on to-do lists only.
Dates, times and reminders
Tap ⋯ → Schedule to choose how dates appear on this list:
- Show dates & reminders is the main switch. Turning it off hides dates, times and reminder details across the whole list, but reminders still fire.
- With it on, Show dates and Show times fine-tune the rows, and Date format picks how dates are written.
To set reminders or make a list repeat, use the bell at the top of the list instead. See Set reminders on items and lists.
On a Live List
Sort and view options are yours alone. Sorting A to Z or hiding completed items changes how the list looks for you, not for anyone else on it. See Start a Live List for what a Live List shares.
FAQ
Where did my completed items go?
Show completed tasks is probably off. Turn it back on in ⋯ → View options.
Why did my sort change to Custom order?
You dragged an item to a new spot. Dragging sets your own order, so the list switches to Custom order to keep it.
Can I sort My Lists too?
Yes. On My Lists, tap the sort button next to the title. See Pin, label and archive lists.
