Join a Live List someone invited you to
Open the invite link and tap Join Live List. You'll need to sign in, and then the list opens on your lists, synced with everyone on it.
When someone invites you to a Live List, you get a link. Open it, tap Join Live List, and the list appears on your lists. It's the same list everyone else is using: when anyone adds, edits or checks off an item, it changes for all of you.
Join from your iPhone
- Tap the invite link in Messages, WhatsApp, email or wherever it arrived.
- If NellyList is installed, the app opens and shows the invite: the list's name, who invited you and a preview of the first few items.
- Tap Join Live List. Tap Not now if you'd rather not.
- The list opens, and a banner confirms you've joined.
If the link opens in Safari instead, tap Already have the app? Open in NellyList. Don't have the app yet? Tap Get NellyList to install it, then tap the invite link again.
Join in a web browser
- Open the invite link. The page shows the list's name, who invited you and a preview of its items.
- Tap Join Live List. If you're not signed in, the button says Sign in to join: sign in or create an account, and you'll be joined as soon as you're in.
- The list opens, ready to use.
On an iPhone browser, the same option appears as Or join here in your browser (or Or sign in to join here) under the app buttons.
What you can do once you're in
You can always check items off. Whether you can also add, edit or remove items, see dates and reminders, or read and write notes is up to the list's owner. If adding is switched off, you'll see Only the owner can add to this list. See Locked Lists.
If the owner chose A list for each person, you get your own column to tick. See Let each person track their own progress.
Tap the lightning bolt at the top of the list to see who else is on it.
If the link doesn't work
- This invite has expired: invite links run out after 30 days. Ask the owner for a new one.
- This invite was revoked: the owner turned that link off. Ask them to send a new one.
- This Live List is full: it has reached the most people it can hold. Ask the owner to make room.
- You were removed from this list: the owner took you off it. Your old link won't let you back in, but a new invite from the owner will.
FAQ
Is this the same as a copy someone shared?
No. A copy link (with Save your own copy) gives you your own separate list. An invite puts you on the same list as everyone else. See Share a copy vs. a Live List.
Can I get out of a Live List later?
Yes, any time, and you can keep your own copy on the way out. See Leave a Live List.
Can I delete a Live List I joined?
No, only its owner can. Leaving takes it off your lists without affecting anyone else.
