Add links to an item
Open an item, type or paste a web address into Add a link… and press Return, then tap Save changes. Each link shows as a card you can tap to open.
Any item can carry a few web links: the recipe you're following, the product page, the booking confirmation. Open the item, paste the address into Add a link… under the notes, and tap Save changes. The link becomes a card with the page's picture and title, and a tap opens it.
Add a link
- Tap an item to open it.
- Make sure Notes is selected (not the checklist).
- Tap Add a link… below the notes, then type or paste the address and press Return.
- Tap Save changes at the bottom.
You don't need to type https://. If what you typed isn't a web address, NellyList says That doesn't look like a link and keeps your text so you can fix it.
An item holds up to four links. Once it's full, the Add a link… field goes away until you remove one.
What a link card shows
Each link appears as a card with the page's picture, its title and the site's name. Well-known services, such as YouTube, Spotify, Netflix, Amazon, IMDb, Goodreads and Steam, also get their own small icon. Music links from Spotify or Apple Music can show a play button for a short preview. See Get cover art and links for films, music and books for more.
If an item has no photos yet, the first link you add brings its picture along as the item's first photo, so the row shows it too.
Rename or remove a link
- Rename: tap the pencil on the card, type a name, and press Return. Clear the name to go back to the page's own title.
- Remove: tap the × on the card.
Either way, tap Save changes to keep the change, or Discard to put things back.
Make an item from a link
You can also start with the link. Paste it into the add field at the top of a list and it becomes a new item, with the page's picture and title filled in for you. Type a few words before the link to name the item yourself. More ways to add items: Add items quickly.
FAQ
Why didn't my link show a picture?
Some sites don't offer a preview picture, or block apps from reading one. The card still works; it shows the site's icon and name instead of a picture.
Can people on a Live List see and open my links?
Yes. Links are part of the item, so everyone on the Live List sees the same cards. If the owner has switched off Edit items, members can open links but can't add, rename or remove them. See Locked Lists.
Where did the link go after I tapped Back?
Link changes wait for Save changes. If you leave without saving, they're not kept, so add the link again and tap Save changes before you go back.
