Use NellyList offline and on all your devices
Every change lands on your device instantly and works with no connection. When you're online, it syncs to every device you're signed in on, usually within seconds.
NellyList saves every change on your device first, then syncs it to your account in the background. You never wait on a spinner to tick something off, and a dead spot in the supermarket changes nothing: add, edit, check off and delete as usual, and your changes sync the moment you're back online.
What works offline
- Your lists and items. Adding, editing, checking off, reordering, grouping and deleting all work with no connection.
- Your changes wait safely. They're queued on your device, so closing the app doesn't lose them. They go up the next time the app is open and online.
A few things have to reach our servers to work, so they need a connection:
- Nelly: creating a list, adding more items, filling in details and Smart Groups.
- Photos: the add button on an item reads Photos need a connection while you're offline.
- Links to other people: making a Share a copy link or a Live List invite, and joining one.
Syncing between your devices
Sign in with the same account on your iPhone and at app.nellylist.com, and your lists follow you. Changes usually arrive within seconds while both are open. When a change from another device lands, a short Lists updated message may appear at the top of the screen.
If the app has been in the background for a while, it catches up when you come back to it.
When two devices disagree
If the same thing is edited in two places, for example on your phone while it was offline and on the web at the same time, the most recent change wins when they reconnect. For lists that's almost always what you meant. In the rare real clash, the newer edit is the one that stays.
Deletes wait for Undo
Deleting a list or item always offers Undo for a few seconds, and nothing is sent to the cloud until that window has passed. So a delete you take back never reaches your other devices, or anyone on a Live List. More in Get back something you deleted.
FAQ
Do I need an account?
Yes. NellyList asks you to sign in before you make your first list, and your account is what connects your devices. Sign in to the same account everywhere you use NellyList, the same way each time. See Change your name and avatar.
I made changes offline. Are they lost if I close the app?
No. They're saved on your device and queued, and they sync the next time you open the app with a connection.
My other device isn't showing my latest changes. What now?
Make sure both devices are online and signed in to the same account, then open the app on the device that's behind. If that doesn't do it, see My lists aren't syncing.
